GADSDEN, Ala.---The Chattanooga Mocs are looking to match history at the Chris Banister Invitational. The Mocs shot 296 Monday for a 36-hole total of 591 at the Robert Jones Golf Trail's Silver Lakes Club. It put the ladies in a 16-stroke lead heading into Tuesday's final 18.

The previous two visits saw the squad sweep team and individual titles in 2007 and 2008. The 2007 triumphs (Kelly Brotherton-Medalist) were in the first event in the program's re-start after being dormant for 20-some years. This time around, there are four Mocs in the top 10 led by Makenzie Cooper.

"Today we played some beautiful golf and then some not so beautiful golf," Coach Colette Murray shared matter-of-factly. "We are glad to be in the position we are in and are looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead of us.tomorrow. Winning is hard. Learning to win is hard. Hopefully, we can finish this off and grow from this in all the right ways."

Cooper shot 73 to today to take a 1-shot lead with 145 (+1). That's just ahead of teammate Violeta Fernandez-Tagle who also posted 73 for a 2-over total. She's tied with Illinois State's Ali Schrock.

Kera Healey makes it three Mocs in the top 5. Her 5-over 149 is four off the pace and tied for fifth. She shot 75 today matching Giulia Foresta as they completed the team tally. Foresta is tied for eighth with 151. Nieves Martin's 82 was the drop score giving her 158 through 36 holes.

Alexis Daniel paces the individual Mocs with 155, tied for 16th after 78 Monday. Imogen Rafferty had the trio's low mark with 77. Her 157 is tied with Carmen Belmonte who posted 81 today.

Chattanooga leads Illinois State (607) by 16. Host Jacksonville State is third with 608 as Northern Colorado made a move into fourth at 618, one better than North Alabama in fifth.

The final round starts Tuesday morning. The Silver Lakes Club is a short drive from Chattanooga and admission is free to follow the ladies live. Live scoring, including pairings when available, is linked above.
