HILTON HEAD---The Chattanooga Mocs moved up the Southern Conference Championships leaderboard Monday morning and early afternoon. The ladies shot 299 led by Violeta Fernandez-Tagle.
The Spaniard recorded the low round of the day with 2-under 70. She matched the top card of the tournament so far. It rocketed her up to just outside the top 5 into a tie for sixth at 4-over 148. The Mocs 299 adds up to a 612 total which puts the squad in sixth overall.
"So proud of V and her round today," Coach Colette Murray shared. "She really dug deep to provide a score that helped us. We have one more day to climb up the leaderboard and really need to throw out a good number if we want to salvage a strong finish."
Kera Healey was next with 74. Makenzie Cooper added 77 to the team tally, while Nieves Martin closed out the counting scores with 78. Giulia Foresta's 83 was the drop. Cooper is now tied for 15th with 153. That's just three out of the top 10. Martin and Healey have matching 156s, while Foresta takes 164 into Tuesday's final round.
ETSU (589) holds a 10-stroke lead over Furman for the top spot. The Bucs Sophie Bert is tied for the individual lead with Samford's Bailey Dunstan at level-par 144. That's four clear of Fernandez-Tagle.
The tournament returns to the course Monday at 8:30 a.m. The Mocs are paired with Mercer and Western Carolina off No. 1. Live scoring and pairings are linked above.
