Violeta Fernandez-Tagle had Sunday’s top round for the Chattanooga Mocs at the National Golf Invitational in Phoenix.

MARICOPA, Ariz.---The Chattanooga Mocs shot 303 over the final 18 holes of the National Golf Invitational to finish eighth. The ladies totaled 904 over three days at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes in suburban Phoenix.
Violeta Fernandez-Tagle led the group over the final 18 with 74. That was one better than Kera Healey's 75. Makenzie Cooper and Giulia Foresta were two behind her with 77s followed by Alexis Daniel's 79.
Fernandez-Tagle and Healey tied for seventh overall with 4-over par totals of 220. Cooper and Foresta also matched for the week with 232 apiece as Daniel tallied 242.
Rutgers claimed the win with a final round 293 moving the Scarlet Knights past 36-hole leader UNC Wilmington. The winning score of 887 was three better than the Seahawks 880. Santa Clara was a close third at 881. Jinger Heath (Jacksonville St.) and Victoria Levy (UNCW) tied indivdually at 3-under 213. Heath won the title on the first playoff hole.
That completes the 2023-24 season. The 294.61 team scoring average is a new school record eclipsing 2015-16's (296.43) old mark by nearly two strokes. Keep an eye on GoMocs.com for summer news and updates leading into 2024-25.

- Fernadez-Tagle's 72.76 stroke average is the second-best scoring mark at Chattanooga behind Dorota Zalewska's 72.53 in 2021-22.
- Fernandez-Tagle's top 10 is her sixth of the season. That's second best by a freshman with Emma de Groot registering a school-record nine in 2007-08, the program's first season since ceasing operations in the mid-80s.
- Healey's second top 10 of the campaign gives the Mocs four different student-athletes with multiple this season: Fernandez-Tagle (6), Cooper (3), Nieves Martin (2) and Healey. That's a first since 2020-21 and the fourth occasion all-time. The other? 2008-09 with five: Maria Salinas (5), de Groot (4), Christine Wolf (2), Kayla Stewart (2) and Moa Duf (2).
