CHATTANOOGA---There are now two Chattanooga Mocs on the New England Patriots 2024 preseason roster. Edge
Jay Person joins former teammate Cole Strange in Foxboro becoming the latest in a long line of Mocs to reach the league.
Â
His path to start his journey was a tough one. Person attended rookie mini-camp on an invite deal claiming his spot with that performance which was based on all they saw over his five years in blue and gold.
Â
"Excited for Jay," Coach
Rusty Wright said. "He earned his chance. It's not easy to go in for a weekend like that and have to perform for that contract. He confirmed to the Patriots what he showed on film and in our room over the last five years. We're excited to see what the future holds for him."
Â
Person led the SoCon in sacks the last two season tying teammate – and Cincinnati Bengal – Devonnsha Maxwell with 8.0 in 2022 before a career-best 9.5 in 2023. He's fourth all-time in the program in sacks with 27.0 and second in tackles for loss with 56.0. He joins
Griffin McDowell as 2023 Mocs to move on to the NFL. McDowell, an offensive lineman, signed as an undrafted free agent with Kansas City following the draft.
