MARICOPA, Ariz.---The Chattanooga Mocs tee off Friday at the National Golf Invitational. The 10-team field plays 54 holes – 18 per day – through Sunday competing in just the second NGI. The Mocs and friends match up on Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course.

"We really just want to go to Arizona and finish on a high note," Coach Colette Murray explained. "We had so many good rounds this year and played well in almost all of our tournaments. The end was not what we had hoped for, so we are very appreciative that we get this opportunity to try to redeem ourselves.

"The winner of the NGI gets an invitation to one of the best events in college golf next year, so there really is a lot at stake."

The Mocs feature the third different starting lineup of the season in Arizona. Sophomore Makenzie Cooper, a native of Litchfield Park, Ariz., is joined by junior Alexis Daniel, sophomore Kera Healey and the freshman duo of Violeta Fernandez-Tagle and Giulia Foresta. It's Daniel's first start while the rest of the squad has started each time out in 2023-24.

Notes to follow…
  • 1st NGI appearance for program in tourney's 2nd year.
  • The winner gets an invitation to the Bruin Wave Invitational co-hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine.
  • Cooper has a shot at becoming the first 3-time winner in a season in school history. There are five 2-time medalists: 2007-08 (2-Emma de Groot), 2008-09 (2-de Groot), 2015-16 (2-McLennan), 2021-22 (2-Dorota Zalewska) & 2023-24 (2-Cooper).
  • Five top 10s (7 top 15s) for Fernandez-Tagle. All five have come in six spring events with top 15s each time out.
  • Three Mocs with multiple top 10s: Fernandez-Tagle (5), Cooper (3) & Martin (2). The last time with six? 7, Dorota Zalewska, 2021-22.
  • 36 par or better cards led by Fernandez-Tagle (13). Most since 41 in 2015-16. 22 are under par w/eight in the 60s (Cooper 5).
  • Another card in 60s for Cooper gives her six. That would tie Emily McLennan for second most all-time in a season at Chattanooga. Zalewska's 11 last season set the record.
