CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women's soccer team fell 1-0 at Austin Peay to close out a three-game road swing. UTC falls to 0-2-1 while the Govs improve to 2-0.
"Tough result tonight," Mocs head coach
Gavin McKinney said. "We had difficulty maintaining control, and the game was more open than we wanted. Adjusting our shape at halftime brought some improvement. With no easy matches in non-league play, we must keep getting better."
Chattanooga outshot Austin Peay 14-11 and
Caroline Ekern pulled in seven saves.
The Mocs got in close several times with shots that just couldn't connect. Freshman
Paige Thomas had four shots for the Mocs with three on goal.
Caroline Richvalsky and
Sophia Mize each added three with
Hannah Opie getting the final tally.
The Govs scored in the 58
th minute. Alec Baumgardt shot across the box, behind the defense, into the right side of the goal for the game winner.
Chattanooga will open the home slate Sunday against Alabama at Finley Stadium with a 6:00 p.m. kick off. Admission to the match is free and concessions will be available. Enter through the Southside Gates.
