FRANKLIN, Tenn.---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team got the opening round started at the Mason Rudolph Championships with a 7-over 295. The Mocs are in 15th behind Middle Tennessee (292) and ahead of Lipscomb (297).
 
Violeta Fernandez-Tagle led the way with 1-under 71. It was supported by Kera Healey's 73 which was one better than Giulia Foresta's 74. Makenzie Cooper closed the team account with 77, while Chloe Stevenazzi turned in the drop score with 85.
 
Mississippi State and South Carolina are tied for the early lead with 276. Arizona and Clemson are one behind at 277. Texas, Baylor and Northwestern are another stroke back in fifth. The Bulldogs' Avery Weed holds the player lead with 65.
 
"This is a tough field," Coach Colette Murray stated. "We need to be throwing out a good number, and that isn't happening yet. Today's 7 over could easily have been 7 under if we do things better, and collectively. All is not lost. We need to just believe in ourselves like these teams do and execute better."
 
Stevenazzi is the first Moc off the tee Saturday at 11:05 a.m., Eastern time. Cooper (11:14), Foresta (11:23), Healey (11:32) and Fernandez-Tagle (11:41).follow in 9-minute intervals. The ladies are paired with Lipscomb and a collection of individuals.

Notes

• Today's 295 is tied for the fifth best opening round in the program's 11 visits to the VU Legends Club. Tied for 13th overall in 30 cards.
• The 295 is the second lowest tally thus far, albeit in just four tries.
• Fernandez-Tagle's 1-under 71 is her first under par score in 2024-25, but third par or better in four cards. 17th career par or better round and ninth under par.
• Fernandez-Tagle is now 3 over in 72 holes on the Legends Club North Course.
• Healey's 73 ties for her low score at Vandy. Third time with 73 turning it in over the first two 18s a year ago.
