Redshirt freshman Landon Jones is this week's Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week the league announced on Tuesday. Jones earned his first weekly honor leading the Chattanooga Mocs at Kent State over the weekend.

The Breakdown

• Second SoCon WOTW honor for a Moc this season: Cavarius Liddie (Nov. 26).
• Captured a decision in Friday night's dual with the Golden Flashes in exciting fashion. His matchup with Trent Thomas was tied 1-1 through seven minutes. It took just over 30 seconds of extra time for Jones to power to a 4-1 win with a takedown.
• Started out Saturday's tournament as the two seed. He carved his way through the 184 bracket with four wins. It started with a third period tech fall of Ohio State's Carson Mize followed by a quarterfinal triumph of Jonathan Sims. He majored the unattached Sims to get the day started In dominant fashion.
• That set up a rematch with Thomas on his home mat in the semis. Once again, the duo was tied 1-1 after seven minutes. Once again, Jones came out on top with a sudden victory decision with a takedown in the extra period.
• He won the championship with a 5-3 decision. Jones got a takedown at 1:58 of the first period and then escaped after a reversal to take a 4-2 advantage in the second. He and Indiana's Roman Rogotzke traded escapes in the second and third periods for the final tally.
• Led a group of seven team placers and 10 overall (three wrestling unattached) taking the Mocs to a third-place finish.
