Quick Recap
The Chattanooga Mocs weekend came to an abrupt end Friday afternoon at the NCAA Championships in Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center. The Mocs final two –
Noah Castillo &
Sergio Desiante – saw their run to the podium end.
Â
Castillo drew Iowa State's Cody Chittum in consolation round two at 157 after knocking 2024 national runner-up Jacori Teemer of Iowa Thursday night. Castillo could not breach Chittum's defense as the Cyclone managed the lone takedown of the match in a 5-3 decision.
Â
Desiante faced a rematch from his Southern Scuffle Championship match in Oklahoma's Gaven Sax. He dispatched the Sooner before heading to the third round of consolations and 8-seed Lenny Pinto from Nebraska. That one got away from him after falling behind and getting caught while chasing the result.

Rundown
- Castillo got his three points on two escapes and a stall point in his loss to Chittum. He gave up three for a takedown, an escape and was pinged for stalling getting run out of bounds twice.
- Desiante's win over Sax played out similarly to his Scuffle triumph with Desiante getting a takedown and taking a 3-2 lead into the third period. Sax chose top, but he could not get Desiante to his back. He cut the sophomore and then Desiante kept him at bay for the triumph.
- Pinto got an early takedown on Desiante in the second bout and another just before the final whistle in the first for a commanding 6-1 lead. Desiante chose down and escaped. He then completed a shot and had the Cornhusker on his back, but it was not deemed long enough for near fall points despite a coach's challenge. After the delay, Pinto was awarded a reversal and took an 8-6 advantage to the third which became 9-6 with an immediate cut. He got two more takedowns off Desiante aggressiveness in trying to chase down Pinto.
- Boarman completed his junior year 22-8. All eight of his losses came to NCAA qualifiers.
- Castillo ended his collegiate career with a 59-23 record. His 17 wins in 2024-25 ranks second highest in his career for s single season (19-2021-22).
- Desiante went 23-4. He almost doubled his career win total coming in with a 25-15 mark over his true and redshirt freshman campaigns.
- Brayden Palmer (133) was the last Moc to reach the consolation third round (2023 Championships). He fell one shy of the blood round dropping a 6-3 decision to (9) Micky Phillippi from Pitt.
- Bryce Carr (184) in 2018 is the last Moc to reach the blood round losing a 6-3 decision to (9) Max Dean of Cornell.

Final Thought
"For Noah to knock off a 4-time All-American was a nice way for him to end his career." –
Coach Ruschell on Castillo's first NCAA appearance
Â
"Sergio going 2-2 in his first NCAA appearance is huge for our program. He and Blake now have a fresh taste of the level it takes to end up on that podium. Now is their time to step up as leaders to bring the national level of competition into the room." –
Coach Ruschell on moving forward from this experience
