About Chattanooga Golf
First Look: The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team shot its best round of the Southern Conference Championships but could not complete the comeback finishing second. The ladies tallied 298 Wednesday for a total of 907.
Violeta Fernandez-Tagle led the group with level-par 72.
Giulia Foresta was a stroke behind at 73 followed by
Makenzie Cooper with 74.
Kera Healey completed the score with 79.
Furman claimed the title shooting 898 for the three days. Mercer (918) was a distant third followed by UNCG (921), ETSU (928), Samford (943), Western Carolina (943), Wofford (944) and The Citadel (1071).
First Thought: "We kind of gave it away on the first day with our start. We gave it our best try, but it's hard to do. They fought, but we gotta get better at making pars. Not even making birdies, just making pars when you gotta get up and down." –

Closer Look
- After two days of windy conditions, it was a somewhat calm, beautiful day for golf. It showed with Chattanooga's and Furman's 298s. Prior to today, there was just one score below 300 (295-Furman 1st round).
- 1 over through nine. Shot 9 over on the back. That fit for the week with a 10 over score on the front and 33 over on the second nine.
- 7th runner-up finish for the Mocs. The program has won or ended in second in 12 of the 17 SoCon Women's Golf Championships in which it's competed.
- Three top 10 finishes for first time since 2018: Monica San Juan (7th), Holly Morgan (T9) & Megan Woods (T9). Seventh time with three or more in the top 10.
- Fernandez-Tagle is the fourth Moc with top 10s in their first two SoCon Tournaments. She finished ninth last season. She joins Jordan Britt (2nd-1st), Agathe Sauzon (1st-T10) and Emily McLennan (T5-1st). Only McLennan did it all four years (2013-16).
- 127 pars over three days. Tied for third fewest of the season with all four totals coming in last four events. Prior to that stretch, the squad averaged nearly 47 per round, 141 per tournament.
Final Thought: " I thought this year was going to be the year. I thought we were back to Chattanooga golf, but the foundation is there. It's coming, and we've got people on the team that are passionate about Chattanooga and being a success." –
Coach Colette Murray on the foundation moving forward
