Lesley Boyd crosses the finish line in first in the 5000 meter run to claim the SoCon Championship.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Chattanooga distance runner Lesley Green* Boyd set a Chattanooga program record at the Raleigh Relays and qualified for the NCAA East Region Track and Field Championships next week in Jacksonville, Fla.
Â
The Dayton, Tenn., native posted a time of 33:23.12 in the 10,000 meter run and is seeded 20
th in the East Region Championships. The 10,000 meter run is slated to start at 9:10 p.m. Thursday, May 29 at the University of North Florida's Jax Track at Hodges Stadium.
Â
Boyd is the first Chattanooga runner to earn a region qualification since Kathleen Turchin ran the 5000 meter in 2007. In 2010, the NCAA dropped the regions from four to two-site format and qualified athletes based on time rather than conference champions.
Â
Having already earned the qualification earlier, Boyd concentrated on the 5000 meter run at the Southern Conference Championships, outdueling a runner from Furman to claim the title at the finish line.
Â
The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+. Links are available on the cross country/track and field schedule page on GoMoc.com.
Â
*Lesley is still listed in the TFRRS site as Green. She married former Mocs runner Jonathan Boyd in 2023.
