Quotable
"We had a complete team effort. We preach the same thing every year. Wrestle hard for the full seven minutes, and then the outcomes take care of themselves." –
Coach Kyle Ruschell
Â
"We practice that a whole lot in the wrestling room. Win the first 20 and the last 20 seconds of every period. We gotta come out hot and finish strong. I don't want to be behind and have to come back and win, but I know I have the ability to go score, and in a short timeframe like that, go get one." –
Hunter Mason

Breakdown
- Match started at 184 with one of three ranked bouts on the card. #23 Tomas Brooker edged #31 Landon Jones 2-0 to put the visitors ahead early.
- #20 Kade Rule answered with an 8-3 decision over #32 Logan Eller with Eller fighting off a late attempt to extend it to a major. #22 Stephan Monchery answered for App with a major at 285 to give his squad a bonus point in a tight matchup.
- The Mocs swept the next three. #27 Cooper Flynn cooly claimed a 6-1 decision at 125 before #33 Ethan Uhorchuk and #23 Jarvis Little went to overtime at 133. There were two reviews in that extra frame after the duo entered knotted at 1-1. An App takedown call was overturned by video review moments before the Mocs challenged the next move of no takedown by Uhorchuk. Review overturned that awarding the match to the true freshman from Signal Mountain.
- That put the Mocs in front for the first time. Mason extended the lead before #31 Kaden Keiser edged newly-returned Dayne Dalrymple to close to 12-10. Cavarius Liddie responded with a decision at 157 to get back to 15-10.
- Mason Reiniche went toe-to-toe with #30 Anthony Conetta at 165. Conetta benefitted from two stall penalties and an escape in a 3-1 triumph.
- #28 Kamdyn Munro completely dominated with his squad clinging to a 15-13 advantage. He scored three takedowns and a 4pt near fall to take a 13-3 lead into the second period. Starting neutral, it took him just 21 more seconds to get a takedown and another 4pt near fall for the 5-point tech fall.
- Key stat: the Mocs scored 11 takedowns to five for the Mountaineers. Four of the five were from Monchery. Munro (4), Mason (2) & Rule (2) all had multiple takedowns for the good guys.
- Series Records: 36-28-1. Check out full history at the link above.
- First win over App since Feb. 8, 2015, a 19-17 win in Boone. Snaps a 10-match losing streak.
