SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 17, 2026) – After an undefeated weekend playing on the top court, Chattanooga Mocs women's tennis sophomore Rufaro Magarira has been tabbed the Southern Conference Player of the Week as the league announced its weekly winners on Tuesday afternoon.
 
For the first time in program history, three different Mocs earned SoCon POTW honors in a single season (award began in 2000) following Addison Iacono's (February 10) and Savannah Presson's (February 24) selections last month. It's the first time since 2016 that the program has earned three or more selections in a season.
 
In a pair of wins last weekend, Magarira went a combined 4-0 between singles and doubles play (all at the No. 1 position) to help Chattanooga (11-1, 1-0) extend its winning streak to nine and open SoCon action 1-0.
 
In Friday's win over NAIA-power Tennessee Wesleyan, Magarira and teammate Presson earned a 6-2 at No. 1 doubles before Magarira posted a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. Magarira and Presson secured a point-clinching 7-6 decision at No. 1 doubles before Magarira notched a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles during Sunday's SoCon-opening win at UNCG.
 
In singles play this season, Magarira is currently riding a nine-match win streak while compiling an 11-1 overall record (4-0 at No. 1; 7-1 at No. 2) so far across 12 total matchups. In doubles, Magarira is 8-2 (all at No. 1) for the season and has won her last three matchups (all at No. 1 with Presson).
