Sandy Mocs Look to Clinch OVC Regular Season Title at Morehead State

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Beach Volleyball team, who sits at 17-4 and 6-0 in conference play, wraps up the regular season at Morehead State on Friday and Saturday with an OVC Weekend. If all goes to plan, the Sandy Mocs could leave the Bluegrass state with their third consecutive OVC Regular Season Title. UTC's full schedule and clinching scenarios are copied below.

Schedule
Friday 10 a.m. vs. Eastern Illinois (Live Stats)
Friday 4 p.m. vs. Lindenwood (Live Stats)
Saturday 2 p.m. vs. Tennessee Tech (Live Stats)
Saturday 6 p.m. at Morehead State (Live Stats) (Watch)

Clinching Scenarios
  1. Chattanooga wins both of its matches on Friday. Then Lindenwood loses to Tennessee Tech on Friday at 8 a.m. and loses to UTC on Friday at 4 p.m., therefore clinching the outright title for UTC.
  2. Chattanooga wins both of its matches on Friday, but Lindenwood goes 1-1 on Friday. Then Lindenwood loses to Morehead State at 10 a.m., giving UTC the outright title.
  3. Chattanooga wins both of its matches on Friday, but Lindenwood goes 2-1 in its first three matches of the weekend. A win for UTC over Tennessee Tech on Saturday at 2 p.m. would clinch it the outright title.
If the Sandy Mocs lose to Lindenwood, it could end up being those two schools tied at the top of the standings at 9-1. The two teams would then be Regular Season Co-Champions. The No. 1 seed in the Tournament would be determined by OVC tiebreaker rules.

Scouting Chattanooga
The Sandy Mocs had their 14-match winning streak snapped on Friday, with an 0-5 loss to Georgia State. However, UTC still had a successful weekend on its home sand in the Scenic City Showdown with wins over UT Martin, North Alabama, Eastern Kentucky, and Berry. Dating back to 2024, Chattanooga has won 24 consecutive OVC regular season matches, and will look to keep that run going to conclude the regular season.

In league play this season, Chattanooga's No. 2 pair, Corina Vale and Julia Lawrence, No. 4 pair, Ashli McKenny and Taylor Clark, and No. 5 pair, Madeline McCabe and Ava Goryl, are all a perfect 6-0. Maddie Lecik and McKenna Faychak are 5-1 on Court 1, while Sydney Jackwin and Ansley Gulledge are 4-2 on Court 3.

Scouting Eastern Illinois
Eastern Illinois comes to the final weekend of the year with a 4-10 record and a 1-5 mark in OVC play, putting it in fifth place in the league standings. The Lions are coming off a 2-2 weekend at Austin Peay, where it defeated Tennessee Tech and Southwest Baptist, and lost to Austin Peay and Missouri State. Eastern Illinois is led by Tori Mohesky and Alanys Nieves, who went 4-0 last weekend and won OVC Pair of the Week honors, becoming just the second pair in program history to do so. The duo won two matches at the No. 5 slot and two matches at the No. 4 slot.

Chattanooga is 9-0 all-time against Eastern Illinois and defeated the Panthers 5-0 earlier this season with all the matches being 2-0 sweeps for UTC.

Scouting Lindenwood
The Lions have proven to be Chattanooga's biggest competitor to a Regular Season Championship this season, as they hold a 15-5 record with a 5-1 mark in OVC play, which puts them alone in second place of OVC standings by two matches. Lindenwood has the longest active winning streak in the OVC, at five matches, with its last lost coming to Chattanooga on March 27. The Lions played just one match last weekend, defeating McKendree 5-0. The pair of Susanna Beretti and Nyah Wilson and the pair of Annalie McWhorter and Abby Jacobs have each had strong seasons with 14-4 records, splitting time at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.

The Sandy Mocs are 11-0 all-time against Lindenwood. In the meeting earlier this season, UTC won 4-1, with its only defeat coming on Court 3 in three sets. All the other four matches were decided in straight sets.

Scouting Tennessee Tech
The Golden Eagles are 4-23 and 0-6 in league play, sitting in last place of the OVC standings. Tech is coming off a 1-3 weekend at Austin Peay, with its lone win coming against Southwest Baptist by a 3-2 score. The Golden Eagles fell to Eastern Illinois, Missouri State, and Austin Peay. Tech's other wins this season have come against LaGrange (3/7), Salem (3/13), and McKendree (4/3). The Golden Eagles are led by Vivian Robards and MK Roberts, who have eight wins at the No. 1 position this season.

Chattanooga is 9-0 all-time against Tennessee Tech. The Sandy Mocs won 5-0 against the Golden Eagles earlier this season. Three of the last four meetings between the two schools have been decided by a sweeping 5-0 score.

The Eagles have not played since the April 2-3 weekend, where it went 2-2 at the EKU Sand Fest. Morehead State started the weekend with a pair of 5-0 losses to Eastern Kentucky, before bouncing back with back-to-back wins over Liberty and Ottawa (Kan.). The Eagles are led by Sarah Heath and Shea Hefner, who are 8-4 in the No. 2 slot. M.E. Hargan and Bella Marita have also been a solid duo for Morehead State, as they are 7-5 playing on Court 1.
