HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Chattanooga men's and women's cross country teams went up against the toughest competition in the South Region Friday morning. The men finished 19^th led by Jack Martin in his first meet of the season while the women, paced by freshman Leila Hailey with a 29^th place finish, were 20^th in the field.

"Solid day today in hot conditions," Mocs head coach Steve Piccuci. "It was great to see where we stand against some other SoCon teams and some of the best teams in the country.

Hailey covered the 5K course in 17:31.1, finishing among the top 30 in a field that featured runners from several Power Four programs, including Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia Tech and UCF.

Aubrey Park was the second Moc across the line, placing 169th in 19:11.0. Freshman Ashley Torr followed closely in 171st with a time of 19:12.2, while sophomore Bella King finished 175th in 19:14.0.

Sophomore Scarlett Nash rounded out Chattanooga's scoring five, placing 184th with a time of 19:18.3.

Anna Roberson crossed 215th in 19:40.3, followed by Emma Thweatt in 216th at 19:40.9. Audrey Wade posted a 19:50.4 to finish 236th, while Maya McCloskey clocked 19:54.4 for 243rd place.

Alabama's Caren Kiplagat claimed the individual title with a winning time of 15:41.4 and led the Tide to the team title.

In the men's 8K race, Jack Martin paced the Mocs over the 8K course with a time of 25:27.3, placing 82nd overall in a field featuring runners from SEC, ACC, Sun Belt and Southern Conference programs.

Derek Mitchell followed closely behind, crossing in 25:29.5 to finish 88th, while Ian Etheridge gave Chattanooga three runners inside the top 105 with a 103rd-place effort in 25:41.0.

The Mocs packed their top five runners within just under one minute of each other. Riley Hanson finished 140th in 26:02.2, and Tristan Gould rounded out the scoring five with a 178th-place finish in 26:26.7.

Andrew Moore was Chattanooga's sixth finisher, placing 182nd in 26:31.2, while Cade Crum completed the Mocs lineup in 223rd with a time of 27:01.3.

The men's race was won by Alabama junior Dismus Lokira, who covered the course in 23:08.8. Alabama placed seven runners among the top 29 finishers and swept the top five individual spots.

"We did a good job of staying focused on the right things today," Piccuci said. "Excited to get back to work as we look to be ready for the end of the season."

Both teams are back in action on Friday, October 2 at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
