TITLE: Academics/Life Skills Intern
REPORTS TO: Lisa Tarr, Coordinator for Student Support Services
START DATE: Fall 2014
END DATE: December 2014 or May 2015
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Work with select student-athletes to ensure they are on path to graduation.
- Gain an understanding of degree requirements, NCAA eligibility requirements and scheduling of classes.
- Assist in the Mocs' computer lab and tutoring programs.
- Coordination of an evening study hall program.
- Provide life-skill opportunities on a monthly basis (one program per month) offered to all student-athletes on topics ranging from mental health issues, resume creation to major exploration.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Seeking or hold an undergraduate or graduate degree in counseling, sport administration or a related field.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Strong verbal, written, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Skills learned through internship: GradesFirst, Career Athletes, academic advisement, Life Skills, study hall and tutoring, NCAA eligibility rules and regulations, and networking in a college athletics environment.
Potential career paths that this internship prepares you for: Preparation for a career in athletic academic advisement or Life Skills.
