Blaine McCorkle takes over the tight ends coaching position for the 2006 season on Rodney Allison’s staff.
McCorkle is coaching at his third school in the State of Tennessee, having served as an assistant at both Tennessee-Martin and the University of the South.
McCorkle was a member of the Liberty coaching staff in 2005 and was responsible for directing the offensive line for Head Coach Ken Karcher. The Flames hosted UTC in 2005 with the Mocs pulling out a last-second, 24-21 victory. In that game, Liberty tailback Zach Terrell ran for 241 yards and was named the Division I-AA National Player of the Week.
McCorkle spent the 2003 and 2004 seasons at the University of the South with Head Coach John Windham, coaching the Tigers’ offensive line. While at the Sewanee, Tenn., school, McCorkle also served as the strength and conditioning coach for all 24 athletics programs.
Prior to his arrival at Sewanee, McCorkle worked for three years at Tennessee-Martin. He coached the offensive line and tight ends from 2001 to 2002 and the receivers in 2000.
McCorkle broke into the coaching profession in 1999 at his alma mater, LSU. Working with Head Coach Gerry DiNardo, he helped with the offensive line while coordinating scout teams for the defense and special teams.
The Pensacola, Fla., native earned his bachelors degree in Education from LSU in 2000. He earned four football letters for the Tigers, lining up as the long snapper.
While at LSU, the Tigers won back-to-back Southeastern Conference Western Division co-championships, going went 10-2 in 1996 and 9-3 in 1997. McCorkle was part of three Bowl Game-winning teams at LSU, including Independence Bowl wins over Michigan State (1995) and Notre Dame (1997) and a 1996 victory over Clemson in the Peach Bowl.
McCorkle was highly involved in the LSU chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He served as summer camp huddle group leader and was a volunteer for God Rules Ministry.
McCorkle graduated from Tate High School in Pensacola, but also attended Woodford County High School in Lexington, Ky., and Clarksville High School in Clarksville, Tenn.
He is married to the former Rebekah Heinz of Baton Rouge, La., and the couple has two daughters, Gracie and Emma.
