Tim Powers joins the coaching staff on a full-time basis for 2006 after serving as a student assistant in 2005. Powers will assist Vantz Singletary with the defensive line.
Powers earned four football letters for the Mocs from 2001-2004 and was a three-year starter on the defensive line.
During his career, he compiled 99 total tackles with 20 behind the line of scrimmage and four quarterback sacks.
Voted a team captain his senior season, Powers set career highs in 2004 with 42 total hits and nine tackles for loss.
As a junior, he was the only defensive player to start the same position in all 12 games, lining up at defensive end. He registered 22 solo tackles with five for a loss and one sack. He lived a defensive lineman’s dream in a win over Western Carolina when he intercepted a pass and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown.
Powers totaled 19 tackles as a sophomore and seven as a freshman. He played in seven games on the defensive front as a true freshman.
Powers was his team’s Most Valuable Player as a defensive lineman in 2000 at Eau Gallie High School in Melbourne, Fla. He was a Wendy’s High School Heisman Award nominee and was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player in the Central Florida All-Star Game. He graduated with Honors and was an Army Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipient.
Powers graduated from UTC in May, 2006 with a degree in Exercise Science, Health and Leisure Studies. He was born on Sept. 23, 1983 in Medford, N.Y.
