Jonathon Goldberg

Jonathon Goldberg just concluded his seventh season as an assistant coach with UTC and his tenth with the Mocs. He served as the Director of Student-Athlete Development for one season and was a student coach the two seasons prior to that while earning his Masters of Health & Human Performance.

In his ten seasons on the bench, the Mocs have won four Southern Conference regular season titles while claiming four SoCon tournament crowns as well. UTC has advanced to the NCAA Tournament four times, the WNIT twice* and saw the Mocs ranked as high as 17th by the Associated Press under Goldberg's guidance. Most recently Goldberg helped the Mocs punch their ticket to the 2023 NCAA Tournament by winning the SoCon Tournament.

He has helped coach first team all-conference post players Abbey Cornelius, Eboni Williams and Yazz Wazeerud-Din, along with helping forward Raven Thompson claim SoCon Freshman of the Year honors for the 2022-23 season.

Jon graduated from Emerson College, a small Division III school in Boston, MA, in the spring of 2014. He earned a B.S. in Communication Studies. While at Emerson, he played under Head Coach Jim O’Brien and Assistant Coaches Bill Curley, Jack Barrett, and Alfred “Rico” Cabral. During his junior and senior year at Emerson, Jon was nominated captain by his teammates. In his senior year, the Emerson Lions defeated the number one ranked team in the nation, Amherst College, and the number three-ranked team in the nation, Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Jon led the Lions in minutes played, rebounds, and free throw percentage, while being second on the team in scoring and steals per game. He was honored as a First Team All-Conference Player in the NEWMAC, New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference. He also received Emerson’s Male Athlete of the Year, as well as Emerson’s Student-Athlete of the Year.

During Jon’s time in college, he coached the AAU travel basketball team, the Vermont Heat. This is where he discovered his passion for coaching and mentoring youth.

For high school, Jon attended Rice Memorial High School in Burlington, VT. During his three years there, the Green Knights won two state championships under Head Coach Paul Pecor. He was named to Burlington Free Press’s first team all-state in his senior year.

Jon is the son of Les and P.J. Goldberg and brother to Katie Goldberg.
