Dr. Valerie Rutledge

Dr. Valerie Rutledge is in her fifth year as the Mocs Faculty Athletics Representative.  She currently serves as the Dean of the University’s College of Health, Education and Professional Studies and is in her 30th year as a member of the UTC faculty.

A three-time graduate of UT campuses and former cheerleader at UTC, Dr. Rutledge earned her bachelor’s degree from the university in 1974 and her master’s degree in 1979 – both in Secondary Education: English. She earned an Ed.D. in Higher Education from UTK in 1997. 

After her UTC undergraduate days, Rutledge worked in the Hamilton County school system for 21 years – teaching English, Latin, and Drama. She began her career as a middle school teacher, and after four years, she moved on to the high school level. Eventually, she began teaching adjunct for UTC’s College of Education.
 
She was recently appointed as a member of the NCAA Walter Byers Scholarship Committee for a two-year term which will continue through August 31, 2025.
