Hired Date: May 2026 (Assistant Coach)
Tom Kiely enters his first season as Assistant Coach, and second total at Chattanooga, ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. Kiely returns to the Scenic City after spending the past three seasons at Farleigh Dickinson (NCAA DI - Northeast Conference)Â under head coach Jack Castleberry.
Kiely originally served as the Director of Basketball Operations (DOBO) with the Mocs during the 2022-23 season, Earl's inaugural season with the Mocs.
In addition, Kiely served as a DOBO under Earl for the previous four seasons at VMI before hopping over to Chattanooga following the hire. Kiely helped the Mocs reach the 2023 SoCon Tournament title game and was key in helping develop the program’s standout three-point attack as well as all-league big man Jake Stephens.
Â
Kiely was hired to join Castleberry’s first staff at FDU ahead of the 2023-24 season and has been instrumental in the program’s success over the past three seasons. Working primarily with the Knights’ frontcourt, Kiely helped develop five All-NEC selections during his tenure while coordinating the team’s scheduling and compliance operations within his off-court responsibilities.
During his time at VMI, Kiely oversaw numerous operational tasks including team travel, scheduling, facilities and directing Dan Earl Basketball Camps. He worked alongside numerous areas of support staff in addition to on-court tasks.
Kiely helped VMI to one of its most successful runs in program history as the Keydets posted consecutive .500 seasons (2020-22) for the first time since 2010-12 and just the second time in program history since a four-year stretch from 1974-78.
Kiely served as a student manager for the men’s basketball team at Seton Hall, his alma mater, for four years. He helped create and develop recruiting mail, served as video coordinator for practice and games, executed team meals and planned logistics. Kiely was a member of the 2016 BIG EAST Tournament Championship staff.
From May 2016 to August 2018 Kiely served as a recruiting coordinator for Hoop Group in Reading, Pennsylvania, working closely with directors to find, evaluate and recruit top talent to the Elite Camp. He worked directly with the vice president on tasks such as running the camp draft, the All-Star meeting, and recruiting and registering campers for various sessions.
Other work experience includes serving as a camp counselor at Kevin Willard Basketball Camps from July 2015-18 and for Duke University Basketball Camps in July of 2015.
Kiely graduated from Seton Hall in May of 2018 with a bachelor’s degree with dual concentrations in marketing and management.
