Will Thornhill is in his first year as Assistant Director of Strategic Communications after being hired in November. He serves as the Communications Contact for Volleyball, Women's Basketball, and Beach Volleyball.Â
Thornhill previously served at local Division III school, Covenant College, as its Director of Athletic Communications for just under three years. He was the primary contact for all 14 varsity sports for the Scots. In this position, he was responsible for news releases, social media, game operations, video streaming, live stats, and awards nominations for conference, regional, and national awards. Thornhill also oversaw a staff of student workers, who he trained to run the scorers table, capture content, and write game stories.Â
During his time at Covenant, Thornhill covered 10 Collegiate Conference of the South Regular Season or Tournament Champion teams. In his final year at Covenant, Thornhill was the Assistant Chair for the Collegiate Conference of the South Communications Group. Additionally, Thornhill covered two All-Americans, Emma Kalbfleisch (Volleyball, AVCA, 2023) and Kade Theunissen (Men's Soccer, CSC, 2024) during his tenure at Covenant.
Prior to his role at Covenant, Thornhill spent a year at Division II, Florida Tech, as the Assistant Director of Athletics Communications. He was the Communications Contact for the Panthers' Women's Soccer, Men's Basketball, and Baseball programs. His main responsibilities were news releases, live stats, and social media. In his lone year at Tech, the Women's Soccer team made it to the Sunshine State Conference Championship match while Men's Basketball won 19 games, its most in a season in 11 years.Â
Immediately after graduating from college, Thornhill spent a summer as a USGA P.J. Boatwright Communications Intern at the Carolinas Golf Association in Southern Pines, North Carolina. In this position, Thornhill traveled to Amateur and Junior Tournaments across North Carolina and South Carolina and provided event coverage through news releases and social content.Â
Thornhill is a May 2022 graduate of North Carolina State University where he earned Bachelor's Degrees in Sport Management and Communication Media. During his time in Raleigh, Thornhill worked for the student newspaper, Technician, as a Sports Staff Writer where his main beats were Baseball, Men's Basketball, and Men's Golf. Â
