2016-17 Chattanooga Mocs Women's Basketball
Post-Game Quotes
Nov. 14, 2016 – Florida – Chattanooga, Tenn. – McKenzie Arena
Jim Foster, Head Coach
On the slow start to begin the game.
"I thought we were tentative before the game and didn't attack them early in the game. We didn't take advantage of the opportunities given to us, and they took advantage of the opportunities we gave them. We were tentative for whatever reason and just weren't aggressive enough."
On finding the right players during the game.
"You just have to make adjustments in the game when certain players are playing the way you need to be playing. When there is communication errors, then there's a problem. We had some players not capable of doing what they could do and then we had some players on the bench that were playing to their capabilities."
On the tough non-conference schedule.
"We're playing teams like this for a reason. We are trying to find out about ourselves, who we are and what our character is. We're not waiting and trying to define it later on. This is real and we are playing real teams. When you don't do what you're capable of doing against these teams you won't win. We are trying to get good enough to win the league and do something in the NCAA Tournament and do something, not just make an appearance."
Jasmine Joyner, Senior
On not moving the ball effectively in the first half.
"We talked about it at halftime. We talked amongst each other and said 'why we aren't moving the ball' and then what's causing it. We got together and went over how to spread the floor and move the ball around, so we adjusted coming into the second half."
Moving forward after the loss.
"This game is going to help us throughout the whole season, not just against Indiana. We know we can compete against these type of teams even when we aren't playing at our best. So we will take this loss and learn from it. We'll get ready for the next game."
On being tough as a team.
"You just have to take criticism and not hang your head. You have to keep working and be aggressive. You have to box out and be there for your teammates mentally. We all have to be there for each other as a team."
Shelbie Davenport, R-Sophomore
On feeding off the crowd's energy at home.
"I think it was what I expected. When we pulled within one and the crowd got into it, I said that we need to use the crowd and feed off of the energy."
On hitting the three-pointer at the first half buzzer.
"It was huge and big for my confidence. I felt like I hadn't hit a shot in a while and it felt good to gain some confidence going into the locker room."

Amanda Butler, Head Coach
Opening statement after win over UTC.
"I'm very proud of this win. This is an excellent ball club here in Chattanooga. This is a super tough place to play and we knew that we were going to have to come with a lot of toughness if we were going to pull it out and I think we did that. This is an NCAA tournament team, Chattanooga, and to be able to beat them here I think it shows where our team is headed."
On out-rebounding UTC 46-26.
That was one of the things we talked about. Having that type of rebounding performance against a very good Chattanooga team, who is tough and are hustlers, speaks laregly to our team efforts."
Beginning the fourth quarter up 52-51 and stretching a lead throughout the quarter.
"I think that when you start the fourth quarter you rely on your upper classmen. I really challenged those guys at half time and I think they answered the call. During that stretch where we were able to separate ourselves again we had all returners on the floor."
Brooke Copeland, Junior
On returning to Chattanooga area (Cleveland, Tenn. native).
"It was incredible to come back to the area and it was great that our team came through in every situation. It got kind of tight there for a little bit, but it was great to pull it out."
On any nerves during the game.
"No I try to stay grounded; not get to high and not get too low. Coach talks about that all the time when we come to play in player's hometowns and that was important for me tonight."
