Postgame Quotes

Lamont Paris, Head Coach

On trying to overcome Samford's offense tonight & overall play.
"Not unless you do something ridiculous. We shot 36 threes which I thought was too many. We did a couple different things, and they weren't successful. We allowed too many layups on defense. I'm concerned that we gave them 73 points. We didn't do a good job defensively. We have a thin margin of error for this team, and we were significantly below that today. We didn't give ourselves a chance tonight. We need to be better than that."

On comeback efforts in second half.
"We couldn't get stops during that stretch in the second half. We were manufacturing points but we ended up trading baskets. You can't do that at that point. You have to eliminate that."

On getting into foul trouble.
"It takes their pressure away. It forces you to put different guys in crucial situations and playing different minutes. It's tough to be productive. That changes a lot of things. We have to be smarter on some of the fouls. You can't reach and pick up bad fouls."

On moving forward.
"We have to play better. We're looking for guys to get better and become more seasoned...make better decisions. A lot of these guys haven't logged minutes, and I have to be patient with that. It changes the scope on a lot of things. We need to rise and exceed in every thing, starting in practice."

Rodney Chatman, So.-G
On what went wrong tonight.
"They have a good offense but it falls back on our defense. We need to be better defensively and coach tells us that. We need to get back to practice and get better."

On Samford's offense.
"Credit to them. They're good at what they do. They run a good offense."

On what needs to improve.
"We have to help more and put our teammates in a better position. We couldn't make shots and finish around the basket. We probably took too many threes so we need to attack more and create layups."

Makale Foreman, So.-G
On what made Samford tough to defend.
"They were in on our shots. They were coming off their screens and were open. We weren't up on those screens and that allowed them open shots that they knocked down."

On trying to come back after falling behind.
"It's hard to come back when you're in a hole. You have to get stops and see what happens from there. We didn't do a good job of that tonight."
