Jesse Bopp joined Matt McCall’s staff in April 2015 as assistant basketball coach. His tale intertwines with both the current and previous head coaches at Chattanooga as he came to the Scenic City from VCU where he was Director of Basketball Operations.

Bopp spent two seasons (2013-14/2014-15) as Shaka Smart’s director of basketball operations. The Rams won 26 games ending up in the top 25 both years.

That followed a three-year stint as head coach/assistant dean of students at Vermont Academy. He led the Wildcats to a 48-43 mark reaching the NEPSAC playoffs each campaign. His squads included six All-New England picks, and his player development efforts led to several future collegians.

His time at Vermont Academy was preceded by his first year at VCU. Bopp served as graduate manager for Smart in 2009-10 after a season as a graduate assistant for Billy Donovan at Florida. In his four campaigns coaching in college basketball, his teams boast a 104-40 record (.722).

Bopp played collegiately at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, N.H. The Henniker, N.H., native served as a team captain his senior season. He graduated in 2007 with a degree in interdisciplinary studies.
