Peter Gash joined Matt McCall’s staff in April 2015 as assistant basketball coach. He and McCall have quite a history together most recently at the University of Florida.
That history was integral to early success at Chattanooga. The Mocs won a school-record 29 games in that first campaign of 2015-16 winning the 11th Southern Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships along with the 11th NCAA DI Tournament appearance for the school.
Gash was the video coordinator for the Gators (2014-15) in McCall’s final season on the Gators’ bench. That followed five seasons at Florida Atlantic where he joined McCall on Mike Jarvis’ staff in 2009 as director of basketball operations. He was elevated to assistant coach in 2011 when McCall returned to UF.
The duo helped FAU to its first Sun Belt regular season title in 2011 breaking the school record for wins (21) and landing the program’s first berth in the NIT, and the first postseason appearance since the 2002 NCAA Tournament. On the recruiting trail, he was integral in landing all-freshman performers in Stefan Moody (2013 Sun Belt) and Marquan Botley (2014 CUSA).
Peter began his post-graduate collegiate career in 2007 as video coordinator at La Salle for Dr. John Giannini. He later served as graduate assistant to Tom Crean at Indiana before moving south to FAU. He was a student assistant at Lynn for three years while earning his degree in sports management. That included a run to the NCAA Division II Final Four in 2005 with a school-record 29 wins.
Gash prepped at the Solebury School in Solebury, Pa. He was a four-year starter for the Spartans playing with more than 11 future DI players and was a teammate of two-time NBA Champion Andrew Bynum.
Gash is married to the former Alexa Anicola. The couple welcomed their first child, Valentina, in June 2015.
