Mocs 20 - Tennessee Tech 6
The game's fourth play saw Bucky Wolford streak 51 yards to a touchdown and it looked as if the Mocs would rout a young, winless Tennessee Tech team. After the initial score, however, it was all either team could do to hold onto the ball; UC lost four fumbles and two interceptions, but the Golden Eagles lost six fumbles.
Blended into the sloppy game were fine running performances by UC fullback Robert Smith, who gained 116 yards in 25 carries, and Tech's Little All-America tailback Larry Schreiber, who gained 106 yards in 24
trips.
The Mocs' fifth straight win over Tech cost them the services of quarterback Roger Catarino when, after picking up a sputtering offense in the second quarter, his knee buckled under him in tne third stanza tearing a cartilage and ending a brilliant career.
Jim Cooper kicked two fourth-quarter field goals for the final margin after Tech had closed to 14-6.
