Mocs 16- East Tennessee 6
In 1967 Jim Cooper booted a 37-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to beat East Tennessee 15-14 at Johnson City. He repeated the stunt last year of kicking a 37-yard field goal in the fourth quarter before an overflow crowd at Chamberlain Field which gave the Mocs their final lead at 16-6.
The Mocs scored just before the half upon completion of a 62-yard drive as Roger Catarina passed 5 yards to Angelo Napolitano and Cooper kicked the extra point. The Bucs took the second-half kickoff and marched 77 yards to paydirt but missed the point after.
The Mocs regained the lead when Bucky Wolford scored from the 1 with 2:24 left in the third quarter, but the extra point was missed. The Mocs forced ETSU to punt and Cooper sealed the lid with his field goal.
A sidelight to the game showed Wolford outgaining the Bucs' Pat Hauser in an exciting rushing contest 116-114; Wolford had a 50-yard run and Hauser one of 30 yards.
