Mocs 41- Austin Peay 13
The collegiate coaching debut of Harold Wilkes was made successful by quarterback Roger Catarino, who ran and passed for 349 total yards, a new school total offense mark, as the veteran Mocs whipped a young Austin Peay team in Clarksville.
The Mocs scored a 10-0 first-quarter lead on Catarina's 14-yard run and Jim Cooper's 45-yard field goal and extra point. UC was never in serious trouble as they moved to a 27-13 halftime lead.
Linebacker Buford Self and safety David Crow intercepted Governor passes to cut off extended drives in a somewhat lackluster defensive performance which allowed 227 air yards and 92 yards rushing.
Catarino had 12-20 for 266 yards in his passing performance and hit tailback Bucky Wolford for two touchdowns.
