Ole Miss 38-Mocs 16
Johnny Vaught and his Rebels ended the dream of an unbeaten rookie season for Harold Wilkes as Archie Manning and sub Don Farrar quarterbacked the Rebs out of danger.
With Manning passing and Steve Hindman running, Ole Miss vaulted to a 17-0 lead with 13:01 left in the half. However, after an offsides call against the Rebs nullified Jim Cooper's missed 51-yard field goal attempt, he came back with a 46-yarder to make it 17-3 at the half.
In a wild fourth quarter, Farrar optioned 44 yards on the first play for a touchdown. Bucky Wolford fumbled the ensuing kickoff but picked it up and raced 94 yards for a touchdown. UC's Richard Manning, who hit 21 of 40 passes for 216 yards, hit wingback Harry Slyhoff with a 27-yard scoring pitch and the Mocs trailed only 24-16 with five minutes left, but Farrar moved the Rebs to two final touchdowns, the last of them came as time ran out.
