CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ? The Chattanooga women's soccer team fell 3-0 to the College of Charleston in Southern Conference action Sunday afternoon at the North River Soccer Complex.
The Cougars scored late in the first half to go up 1-0. Megan Manthey and Julie Romanik set up a goal by Brittany Schneider at the 36:04 mark. The Chattanooga defense would hold off any more scores the remainder of the half.
In the second half, Charleston added a pair of insurance goals. One third of the way into the second stanza, Kerry Broderick beat out the Chattanooga defense and sent a shot into the back of the net to put the Cougars up 2-0 at the 62:36 mark of the game. With just over 10 minutes to play, Julie Romanik took a pass from Megan Matheny off a Danielle Jordan corner kick for the final margin.
Charleston outshot the Lady Mocs 19-6 and held a 10-2 shots on goal margin. Freshman UTC keeper grabbed seven saves in 90 minutes and Cougar keeper Sarah Wiggers had just one. The Lady Mocs fall to 1-10-2 and 1-5-1 in league action while second-place College of Charleston improves to 9-6-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the SoCon.
Chattanooga will host The Citadel Friday at 7 p.m. at the North River Complex. The home finale will be Sunday against Davidson at 2 p.m.
