CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ? Five Chattanooga players scored in double digits Thursday night as the Lady Mocs defeated Lee University 81-49 in a preseason exhibition in front of 878 fans at the McKenzie Arena.
Senior Alex Anderson led the Lady Mocs with 14 points in 27 minutes, eight rebounds, a game-high five assists and four blocked shots. Sophomore Shanara Hollinquest went 5-for-5 from the free throw line and had 13 points and eight boards, including five on the offensive side.
Senior Brooke Hand was 3-for-6 from the 3-point line and had 11 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Jenaya Wade-Fray had 11 points for the Lady Mocs and junior Erin Ogan had 10 points and six rebounds.
Both teams battled it out in the first half with five ties by intermission. Chattanooga's largest lead of the period was six points on a layup by Laura Hall with 5:53 to play. Lee led four times in the first half and trailed UTC 34-29 at the break.
The Lady Mocs ran away with the game in the second half, outscoring Lee 10-2 in the first three minutes to lead 41-31. Hollinquest scored 11 of her 13 points in the latter period, going 4-for-6. Lee cut the lead to 44-36 on a 5-0 run by Jan Dodson who had a game-high 16 points.
Hollinquest's jumper with 11:22 to play sparked a 24-2 run over the next nine minutes that was capped by a 3-pointer from sophomore Tagan Hatchett at the 2:15 mark putting the Lady Mocs up 77-45. Hatchett had six points on a pair of 3-pointers.
Dodson led all scorers with 16 points and Jessica Still had 11 points for Lee with six rebounds. Aaron Richmond had six points and five rebounds and Brooke McKinnon had six points on the night. Lee defeated Concordia in its season-opener Monday night.
Chattanooga will open the regular season with a pair of instate road games. The Lady Mocs will take on Austin Peay Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:00 p.m. in Clarksville and then face the defending National Champion Lady Vols in Knoxville on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 3:00 p.m.
