Lady Mocs Down RedHawks 88-63 at UTSA Classic

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Alex Anderson led four Chattanooga players in double figures to lead the Lady Mocs to an 88-63 win over Miami University (Ohio) on day two of the UTSA Wells Fargo New Year's Classic and was named to the All-Classic Team.

Anderson, with 20 first half points, posted her third double-double this year with a season-high tying 27 points and 14 rebounds. Jenaya Wade-Fray tallied her first 20-point game of the season going 4-for-4 from 3-point land while Shanara Hollinquest, 6-of-11, scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Brooke Hand, 3-for-7 from beyond the arc, had 10 points for her second straight double digit game.

The Lady Mocs started the game with a 10-2 run over the first 3:25 and stretched its lead in the first half to as much as 14 points and led 41-30 at the half. With a 21-10 lead, Anderson scored 12 straight points and expanded the Lady Mocs lead to 33-20 over the a 5:30 span in the stanza. She would score four of Chattanooga's next eight points heading into intermission.

In the second half, Chattanooga continued to pound away at the RedHawks. With 13:59 to play, Brooke Hand drained back-to-back 3-pointers, sparking a 16-0 run by the Lady Mocs over a 4:32 span that was capped by a free throw from LaCondra Mason. This put UTC up by 27 with 9:27 to play.

Hand moved to a tie for the 18^th spot on the Lady Mocs all-time scoring charts with 1,104 having crossed the threshold the day before in UTC's win over Weber State.

Wade-Fray posted a 14-point performance in the latter stanza, making 5-of-8 from the field and connected on both 3-point attempts. Her final trey of the contest with 4:38 to play would give the Lady Mocs an 81-49 lead, its largest of the game.

Laura Hall dished out seven assists in the contest while Wade-Fray and Amy Mohr each had three for Chattanooga. Hall surpassed former teammate Nicole Mattison on the all-time assists chart for sixth place and Anderson passed Miranda Warfield on the scoring charts for ninth place all-time.

The RedHawks (7-6), without top scorer Amanda Jackson, who suffered an eye injury the night before in a double-overtime loss to host UTSA, were led by Jenna Schone with 15 points. Courtney Reed had 14 points and seven rebounds while Stephanie Ford had 12 points. Ashley Hawkins had a team-high five assists.

Chattanooga (10-3, 2-0 SoCon) will return to action Saturday, Jan. 5 at Appalachian State. The game will tip off 2 p.m.
