Nashville,
Tenn. ? Senior midfielder Lauren
Uremovich found the back of the net on a header in the box to break a scoreless
tie at the 58:45 mark and lead the Belmont Bruins (1-0) to a 1-0 season-opening
victory over Chattanooga (0-1) at the Whitten Soccer Complex. The game was the
season-opener for both teams.
Following a scoreless first half in which Chattanooga
weathered three Belmont
corner kicks and seven shots on goal, both teams maintained the defensive
battle at the start of the second half despite offensive opportunities for both
squads.
Belmont
came out firing early, registering three shots on goal in the first ten minutes
of the half, and the Lady Mocs narrowly missed taking the lead on a shot off the
post by sophomore forward Chelsea Hurst at the 52:48 mark. Six minutes later,
Bruin senior forward Kari Lennon found Uremovich with a pass in front of the
goal mouth and the senior headed it into the net for the go-ahead goal, putting
Belmont up 1-0.
The Bruins defense then held firm for the remainder of the game
and allowed the Lady Mocs only two shots on net the rest of the way before closing
out the narrow 1-0 victory.
On the evening Belmont
posted a 14-5 advantage in shots, registering seven in each half, and 3-1
margin in corner kicks. In goal for the Bruins, senior Micaela Crowley and
sophomore Zirka Thompson split the duties and combined for a total of three

notching seven saves in 90 minutes of action. The Lady Mocs tallied five shots
on goal from five different players and managed two shots in the first half and
