CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women's soccer team shut out The Citadel 2-0 on a cool, crisp Friday night at the North River Soccer Complex.
UTC freshman D.K. Henry netted her second multi-goal game of the season and led the Lady Mocs to their second Southern Conference win of the season, matching their league wins total from last season.
Both of Henry's goals came in the first half with the first in the 21st minute. She took a pass from teammate Morgan Shelton and beat out her defender down the middle for the game-winner.
Her second goal came less than one minute later on a free kick. Chelsea Hurst sent a hard shot to the far post and Henry elevated over the defenders to knock a header into net to put the Lady Mocs up 2-0.
Chattanooga outshot the Bulldogs 19-5 with Henry leading the way with six shots. The Citadel's keeper Whitney Nave had six saves on the night with three in each half.
“This is the best team The Citadel's had as is evidenced by their win over Georgia Southern earlier this year,” Lady Mocs' Head Coach J.D. Kyzer said. “We're working together more and were able to get some things accomplished tonight that we needed.”
The Citadel will remain on the road Sunday to take on SoCon freshman Samford in an afternoon matchup in Birmingham, Ala. The Lady Mocs will host the College of Charleston Sunday at 2 p.m. at the North River Complex to close out the home portion of their schedule.
