Women's Soccer Falls 2-0 to Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C. --- Despite giving up just one goal in each half, the Chattanooga women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Western Carolina in Southern Conference action Friday night at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

 

The Lady Mocs fall to 5-12-1 overall and 2-7 in league action while the Catamounts nabbed their fourth consecutive win to improve to 11-6 overall and 8-1 against conference opponents.

 

Western Carolina found the goal in the first half in the 18th minute on a goal by Shanna Shmoker. She took a pass from teammates Rachael Shomper and Shannon Fowkes and got her shot past Chattanooga keeper Allie Preston in the right corner.

 

The Catamounts second goal came late in the game on a penalty kick by Bri Cunningham in the 87th minute. WCU held a 19-4 shots advantage over Chattanooga with nine shots on goal to UTC's one. Preston grabbed seven saves on the night with Western's Caitlin Williams grabbing one.

 

The Lady Mocs will remain on the road this weekend with a league matchup at Appalachian State at 1 p.m.
