STATESBORO, Ga. ? Sophomore Caroline DeRhodes scored twice for Chattanooga Friday night at Eagle Field to force overtime, but it wouldn't be enough as the Lady Mocs fall 3-2 to Georgia Southern in Southern Conference action.
The Lady Mocs fell behind quickly Friday night by a 2-0 margin. Danae Kaimuloa scored the first goal of the match with a breakaway down the right side of the field and getting past a defender to put Georgia Southern on the board in the 19th minute. Ashley Touissant added another goal for GSU in the 28th minute to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
It would take just five minutes for the Lady Mocs to get on the board as DeRhodes tallied her first collegiate goal in the first half. She didn't have to wait as long for her second. DeRhodes sent a header past the GSU keeper at the 66:40 mark off a pass from junior Marlee Jenkins to knot the match at 2-2.
Neither team would find the net the remainder of the half and the Lady Mocs headed to just its second overtime this season. With just 55 seconds remaining in the first overtime, Georgia Southern's Danae Kaimuloa scored her second goal of the game to give the Eagles a 3-2 sudden victory win.
The Lady Mocs fall to 4-6-1 overall and 1-2 in league play. The Eagles move to 4-4-2 overall and 2-1 in SoCon action. Chattanooga will head to Davidson to take on the Wildcats Sunday afternoon. The match is set to kick off at 2 p.m.
