BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- D.K. Henry and Chelsea Hurst each notched a goal in Thursday night's women's soccer season finale for Chattanooga as the Lady Mocs fell 4-2 to Samford at Bulldog Field.
Samford jumped on the scoreboard first with a goal by Sarah Wilkinson in the third minute with her fifth goal of the season. She took a pass from Colette Nammour and headed the shot past Chattanooga keeper Allie Preston.
With 16:27 gone in the game, the Bulldogs added to their lead on a goal from Amber Cress to take a 2-0 lead.
Hurst, a junior, cut the lead in half when she connected on a penalty kick in the 42 minute and the Lady Mocs were down just one goal at the break.
The Flintville, Tenn., native entered the UTC career record books. She is ranked eighth on the all-time scoring charts with 28 points. Her 10 goals puts her ninth all-time and she is 10th on the all-time assists list with eight.
Samford stretched the lead back to a pair of goals just over five minutes into the second half when Caroline Baxter took a pass from Leah Leppert and shot from seven yards out to make it 3-1.
The Lady Mocs would again cut the lead to one when Henry picked up a ball off Samford's keeper Alyssa Whitehead's hands and drilled home her eighth goal of the season at the 54:08 mark of the game. She scored one goal on four shots for Chattanooga for her eighth goal of the season.
With 18 points on the year, Henry climbs into the Lady Mocs record books, ranking ninth on the single season scoring charts. Her eight goals puts her tied at sixth with Dusty Griffy (2002) and Brooke Crandall (2001).
Samford would put it away, though in the 71st minute when Natalie Fleming's shot tipped off Preston's hands and into the goal to make it 4-2.
Preston also made her mark on the UTC record books. With 128 saves this season, she is ranked fifth on the single season charts and fourth on the all-time list. With a goals-against average of 2.41, she is tied for fourth all-time.
The Lady Mocs end the 2008 campaign with an overall record of 5-14-1 and a 2-9 mark in league action.
