ORLANDO, Fla.---No. 13 Chattanooga shot a nine-over par 297 in the final round of the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla., to finish tied with Memphis in 11th-place with a total of 877 (+13). The tournament was won by host UCF with an 18-under par total of 846.
“We didn't play very well, but we learned some good things,” said Head Coach Mark Guhne. “Ben and J.T. played solid at the four and five spots. Every team has a bad tournament. Hopefully this one is ours for the spring.”
Three Mocs tied for 37th to lead the way for the Mocs at 220 (+4). Ben Rickett, Derek Rende and Fredrik Qvicker were the trio with Rickett carding the second lowest round of the day for Chattanooga, a one-over par 73. Rende and Qvicker each shot 77.
J.T. Clendenin had the low round of the day for the Mocs with an even-par 72. Jonathan Hodge added a 75. The duo tied for 54th with a total of 222 (+6).
“It was a blustery day, but everyone had to play in the same conditions,” added Guhne. “Two or three years ago, this would have been a good showing. It says a lot about where we have raised our program and expectations.”
The Mocs return to action on March 10 and 11 at the Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate at the Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.
