Chattanooga Mocs Football - Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga at Samford
Seibert Stadium - Birmingham, Ala.
Oct. 10, 2009

UTC Head Coach Russ Huesman
On the game:
"Great effort by our football.  We're in the locker room there and I gave the game ball to Adam (Fuller, Def. Coord.), representative of our defense.  I told them at halftime I would've bought a ticket to see them play.  They really got after it.  You can hear the offense telling them "great job, you saved us," but no, it was a great team win.  We got some of the clutchest third-down throws in the first half to get us 14 points.  Just an unbelievable job."

On the defensive effort:
"The two turnovers near the goal line were huge.  And I grabbed the defense after we got the second stop down there and said guys that's defense, you don't quit, you don't give up.  They're not in the endzone and until they get into the endzone, it's not seven points.  They played hard...they tackled well.  We are coming around on defense."

On injuries to seniors Joseph Thornton and Bryan Fitzgerald:
"Thornton's OK, I think he got a stinger.  It scared him more than anything, probably scared the doctors and trainers.  But once it kind of went away he said I'm OK, I'm gettin' up and they wouldn't let him get up.  It was precaution and it should be that way.  Fitz sprained his foot again.  We gotta get him healthy.  He's gotta get more than three carries in a game before he comes out."

On the failed fake punt:
"Ah man, I was kind of mad at Jare (Gault) and Jare came up to me after the game and apologized (chuckling).  But we had it.  I told him throw it out there if he's got him beat, if not, let him come back to it and he just let him come back a little too far.  It would've been a big play"

On being 4-1 overall, 2-1 in the SoCon:
"It feels good.  Some of the smiles you see.  (Senior) Tony Swafford had a huge smile on his face, fifth-year senior.  For the older guys, it's just incredible for those guys.  To get wins...to get that feeling in the locker room, it just makes my day."
