CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Lady Mocs fell 1-0 to Furman in Southern Conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at the North River Soccer Complex.
Furman moves to 9-4 overall and 3-3 in league play and the Lady Mocs are now 6-4-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the SoCon.
Furman's El-Shami took a shot from 10 yards out, getting it past both a Chattanooga defender as well as the Lady Mocs' keeper for the lone goal of the game and her first of the season. Lady Paladin Martha Hall was credited with the assist.
The Lady Mocs had 11 shots on the day to Furman's 13 but both teams had seven shots on goal. UTC's sophomore Donna-Kay Henry (Queen's Village, N.Y.), who was penalized twice in the game with yellow cards, led the Lady Mocs with five shots , three on goal. Freshman Becca Smith (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) had two shots, both on goal and four other UTC players had shots in the game. Freshman keeper Taylor Davidson (Ooltewah, Tenn.) had six saves in the game.
Furman's Chelsea McKie had a team-high three shots while Hall, El-Shami and Katya Gokhman each had two. Jessica Smith had a game-high seven saves in 90 minutes in goal for the Lady Paladins.
Six yellow cards were issued in the game with UTC receiving four to Furman's two.
The Lady Mocs will make their final road trip of the season next weekend beginning with a Friday evening match at Elon followed by a Sunday afternoon contest at UNC Greensboro.
