Chattanooga Football - Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga at Elon
Rhodes Stadium - Elon, N.C.
Oct. 24, 2009
UTC Head Coach Russ Huesman
Opening Statement:
"They've got a good football team, I said coming in that they had no weaknesses. Offensively, they've got weapons. Up front they are real good, they've got guys that played two, three years. They're big, they're physical, they can run the ball, and then at quarterback, they are as good as anyone in the country. Their wideout is as good as there is in the country. You've got that combination offensively and you're scrambling to try to create ways to slow them down."
"And then defensively, they don't get enough credit. They are very good on defense. They are physical, they are well coached. They are where they are supposed to be."
On the opening interception:
"We got the start we wanted. We got the pick on the bad ball. He made a bad throw, but we only got three. We didn't get seven. We've got to get seven. We can't settle for field goals. You've got to get those in a game like this. And then we hold them the next time. It just looked like Riddle was a little off. We get the ball back. If we score there and are up 10, now all of a sudden we have some life, they may be pressing. But instead we are three-and-out and don't get a very good punt and give them good field position and they went right down and scored."
On the play of Elon:
"They are one of the elite (programs) in the nation right now. They are doing it with redshirt juniors and seniors. 19-out-of-22 guys on that field for them are redshirt juniors and seniors. That's how you win a national championship, that's how you go deep in the playoffs, that's how you win conference championships. You don't do it with freshmen and sophomores."
Final thoughts on the game:
"I told our guys in the locker room that we weren't happy. We haven't practiced well the last two weeks. I think we've gotten complacent as coaches and as a football team these last two weeks. We haven't demanded to tackle well in practice. And that's on us as coaches and that's on me. We will get things corrected."
