Team
- Chattanooga improves to 3-3 on the season with a 74-70 win against Longwood Saturday afternoon. Longwood is 0-7.
- This was the first game between the two schools.
- Second halftime lead the Mocs have overcome this season (ETSU).
- UTC is now 66-55 in neutral site games in the DI era. The Mocs are 613-360 as a DI program (33rd season).
- Head Coach John Shulman is 93-75 in his sixth year, 8-13 at neutral sites.
- The win breaks a five game losing streak at neutral sites including the 2009 NCAA West Regional loss to UConn.
- Chattanooga is 87-44 in in-season tournament play which does not count preliminary rounds for recent tournaments. The Mocs have won 30 such events including 25 at home and five at neutral or road sites. The last tournament win for UTC came at the 1989 Disneyland Freedom Bowl Classic in Anaheim, Calif., defeating Navy (86-81) and UC Irvine (74-72).
- Chattanooga was out-rebounded for the fourth time in six games, 40-36. The Lancers managed 22 second chance points off of 17 offensive rebounds..
- Longwood scored 53 of its 70 points either off turnovers or offensive rebounds.
- The Mocs bench scored 28 points compared to 22 for Longwood.
- The Chattanooga defense held the Lancers without a field goal for 5:17 from the 10:23 mark to 5:06 when Antwan Carter scored on a jumper. Longwood did score six points off free throws.
- The Mocs still played without the services of three scholarship players (Troy Cage, Chris Early, Ty Patterson).
- Today's game is a part of the South Padre Island Invitational. The Mocs, Broncs, Lancers (Longwood) and Wildcats (Bethune-Cookman) share one bracket, while Missouri, Mississippi State, Old Dominion and Richmond are in the other. The brackets are set by the teams that hosted two games in preliminary rounds prior to convening in South Padre (i.e. Richmond/Missouri whom the Mocs travelled to play).
- The four-game, nine-day road trip is almost complete just the trip home tomorrow to come. Round-trip, the Mocs will travel 3,886 miles.
Individual
Sophomore Ricky Taylor
- Career high 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting including 4-6 from three-point range and 5-6 from the free throw line.
- With the Mocs trailing 66-63, he scored nine of the final 11 points to secure the win.
- Scored 18 of the game-high 21 points in the second half.
Junior Ridge McKeither
- Scored 19 points to go with a team-high seven rebounds.
- Made seven of eight shots on the day including his only three-point attempt.
- Played the final seven-plus minutes with four fouls.
- Named to the All-Tournament team.
Sophomore Keegan Bell
- Career high 11 assists.
- Did not look to shoot much but scored five points including a great take to the basket scoring on a hotly contested layup with 30.2 seconds to play giving the Mocs a three-point margin.
Bench
- Ricky Taylor with 21 led the bench's 28-point output.
- Redshirt freshman Dontay Hampton once again provided strong play in reserve of Bell. Scored two points with a rebound in six minutes.
- True freshman Sam Watson played well in 10 minutes hitting a big jumper and grabbing two defensive rebounds.
