CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's basketball program will give its fans their first glimpse of game action Saturday night in the McKenzie Arena as it takes on Tennessee Wesleyan at 7 p.m. The Mocs do not return a single starter from last year's Southern Conference Championship team, and despite a spate of injuries, the team is excited to get on the floor.
"This is Chattanooga basketball and there is one expectation, compete for championships and that's what we will do," said sixth-year head coach Jon Shulman. "We are battling some injuries right now, but I think this is a team that fans will enjoy watching. We are very young, but we are also very hungry."
The Mocs are down to eight scholarship players after injuries, illness, etc. The four who are out, Troy Cage, Chris Early, Dante Harvey and Ty Patterson, are all likely out until into December. That leaves a likely starting lineup of two juniors, two sophomores and a true freshman.
Chattanooga opens the 2009-10 season next Friday, Nov. 13, with Virginia Intermont before welcoming long-time rival East Tennessee State on Tuesday, Nov. 17. The Mocs look to "Rock the Roundhouse" against ETSU with a special ticket promotion. The athletics department is selling all upper level tickets for $1 at the McKenzie Arena for the Buccaneers visit. Fans can purchase tickets at the McKenzie Arena Box Office at Gate One or online at GoMocs.com and print their tickets from their home computer. Be sure to enter the promo code (beatetsu) for the $1 seats.
