Head Coach John Shulman
Opening Statement:
"Look out there we have three walk-ons on the court at the same time, they are going to play a big role. I thought Dontay Hampton played better than anyone on the team. He did what we asked him to do. He ran the team, didn't turn it over and rebounded with six defensive boards. I like what he did out there."
On freshman Drew Baker:
"They could make a movie about Drew Baker. Going from manager to player, to getting on the team, and now playing in games, and to having five boards in the first game."
On freshman Sam Watson:
"Sam is going to have to play. What you saw from Sam tonight? I do not know who that was out there tonight, maybe it was first game jitters. I am not expecting a lot of scoring from Sam. He has shot four threes this year and was four for four. He doesn't shoot a lot but when he does they go in. He is going to have to defend and rebound for us. Tonight, he did neither."
On freshman Josh Odom:
"I thought Odum got us off to a really good start. He is not scared of anything, nothing rattles him. He goes out there in his first college game. He starts and goes out there and made the plays."
On the team's injuries:
"I think you could take a poll of the other eleven schools in the league and they would not feel sorry for us right now. Everyone has injuries, we just happen to have a rash of them right now."
On the defensive effort:
"We have a long way to go defensively. We have to be reliable, responsible, dependable."
On the warm ups:
"Tonight was the first time we were out there with uniforms on, and our Indiana inspired sweat bottoms. That is the first time theses guys have been out there. I liked them, I thought they were unique, different. I love Indiana's sweats. We went up and played them and I thought they were cool. I have nothing to do with uniforms, that is all Coach Condrady, but I told him I want some sweat pants like that. I had not even seen them until they walked into the meeting room before the game. They might be a bit much, just a little something different. My attitude is Bobby Knight inspired."
