- Chattanooga is 5-4 on the season, 0-1 in the Southern Conference following an 82-60 win over Mississippi Valley State of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Saturday afternoon at the McKenzie Arena. The Delta Devils are 1-8.
- The Mocs now lead the series 2-0 with its second win in as many years. Chattanooga won last year's meeting 65-61 in Itta Bena.
- UTC has won six straight non-conference home games.
- UTC is 615-361 as a DI program (33rd season), 327-81 in the McKenzie Arena.
- Head Coach John Shulman is 95-76 in his sixth year, 63-20 in the McKenzie Arena.
- The Mocs have won three of the last four contests.
- Chattanooga made 14 of 34 three-pointers on the day. The 14 made is a season high, while the 34 attempts are just shy of the 36 shot against Virginia Intermont in the season opener. The McKenzie Arena record is 16 made which was done twice once against Columbus (1/7/91) and just two years ago against Covenant (11/9/07). The Arena record for attempts is 37 against Ohio Valley (11/11/06).
- While the Mocs were 14-34 from three-point range, they shot 16-27 from INSIDE the arc, 59.3%. They shot 9-14 (64.3%) on two-point attempts in the second half, 7-14 (50%) in the first.
- Mississippi Valley State was limited to shooting 40.8% for the game, but the Mocs defense allowed just 36% (9-25) shooting in the second half. The Delta Devils are the eighth team in nine games to make eight or more threes against the Mocs this year in making nine today.
- UTC had a season high 24 assists on the day. It's the third time topping the 20-assist mark.
- Chattanooga forced 23 turnovers on the day while forfeiting 18 possessions of their own. The 23 turnovers ties the season high for the Mocs defense matching the season opening number by Virginia Intermont (11/13/09). 11 of the Mocs turnovers came in the second half.
- The Mocs scored 27 points off the 23 Delta Devils miscues, while MVSU scored 18 on the UTC's 18 turnovers.
- Chattanooga won the battle of the boards with 36. Ridge McKeither's eight led the way. No other Mocs player grabbed more than four.
- The Mocs played without the services of two scholarship players (Troy Cage, Dante Harvey) due to injury. Cage is possibly out for the year after surgery to repair stress fractures in his leg. Harvey is out until mid-to-late January with a wrist injury suffered at Jacksonville State (12/1). UTC has lost 29 man-game missed on the season through eight games.
Individual
Senior Ty Patterson
- Saw his first action of the season missing the initial eight games scoring 16 points on 6-12 shooting from the field, 4-9 from three-point range.
- Started and played 19 minutes fouling out on a charge at 5:40 in the second half.
- Injured wrist on the charging foul and is considered day-to-day.
Sophomore Ricky Taylor
- Career high of 22 points on 8-14 from the field, 4-9 from three-point range and 2-2 from the free throw line off the bench.
- One of three Mocs to make four three-pointers.
- Added four rebounds, two assists and a steal to his line.
Freshman Josh Odem
- Nice all-around game with 12 points, three rebounds, six assists and two steals in 30 minutes.
- Went 4-9 from the field making all four of his shots from beyond the arc in eight attempts.
- Six assists are a new season high.
- Has made two or more three-pointers in five straight games shooting 46.2% (12-26) during the span.
Sophomore Keegan Bell
- 10 assists today, second highest total in his career behind 11 against Longwood (11/28).
- Leads the league in assists pushing his average to 6.3 per game from 5.9.
Junior DeAntre Jefferson
- Made first career start.
- Had 9 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal in 25 minutes.
- 25 minutes are a season high.
- UTC had a season high 24 assists on the day. It's the third time topping the 20-assist mark.
