Mocs Finish 10th at Hootie at Bulls Bay

AWENDAW, S.C.---With a final round 284 (E), the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team finished the Hootie at Bulls Bay in 10th place on Tuesday afternoon.  The Mocs completed the 54-hole event five shots behind ninth-place Kentucky.

 

Augusta State claimed an impressive eight-shot win shooting 17under par, 835.  Virginia was second at 843 (-9), while No. 14 South Carolina surged to third as a final round 276 (-8) gave it a total of 846 (-6).

 

It was a steady day for the Mocs as all five players shot between 70 and 72.  Derek Rende led the way with a one-under par 70 despite opening his day with a double bogey seven on the 10th hole.  Rende fired four birdies against just one bogey the rest of the way for his 70.

 

Ben Rickett and Stephan Jaeger each shot even-par rounds of 71.  Rickett's round included an eagle on the par-five sixth hole which played as No. 15 since the Mocs began their round on No. 10 this morning.  Jaeger balanced three birdies with three bogeys.  Jonathan Hodge and Fredrik Qvicker each shot one-over par 72 for UTC.

 

For the week, Rende and Qvicker tied for team-high honors finishing tied for 22nd at 215 (+2).  Jaeger shot 216 (+3) to tie for 29th.  Hodge tied for 46th shooting 220 (+7), while Rickett shot one-over par over his final 36 holes to finish tied for 60th at 223 (+10).

 

Janne Kaske of Augusta State was the wire-to-wire medalist shooting a six-under par 65 in the final round to stave off George Bryan IV of South Carolina.  Kaske finished at 14-under par 199 topping Bryan IV by two shots at 201 (-12).  LSU's John Peterson came in third, six shots off the pace at eight under (205).

 

Chattanooga returns to action for the Administaff Augusta State Invitational April 4-5 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
