Mocs Tied for Sixth after Round One of Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn.. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team is tied for sixth after 18 holes of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate on a blustery day at the Ridges Golf and Country Club.  Chattanooga shot 11-over par and is tied with Tennessee at 299.

The Mocs are two shots out of fifth-place behind No. 25 Virginia at 297 (+9).  No. 24 Wake Forest and Virginia Tech are one shot behind UTC and the Vols in a tie for eighth at 300 (+12).

Redshirt freshman Benni Weilguni (Langelois, Austria) led Chattanooga with a one-under par 71.  His season-high five birdies were offset by four bogeys as he is tied for fourth entering round two.

Junior Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) continued his steady play shooting 73 (+1).  He is tied for 13th just two shots behind Weilguni.

Freshman Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) carded a 76 (+4) to rank third on the team.  Sophomore Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) and redshirt freshman Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) each shot 79 (+7).

Kent State owns the first round lead at three-over par, 291.  North Carolina and Missouri are tied for second at 295 (+7) followed by UNC Wilmington in fourth at 296 (+8), just three shots clear of the Mocs.

John Hahn of Kent State leads individual at minus four 68. Marshall Bailey (Virginia Tech) and Jace Long (Mizzou) are tied for second at 70 (-2), while  Weilguni is tied for fourth at one under 71.

Chattanooga tees off No. 1 at 11 a.m., Saturday paired with UNCW and UVa.  Fox will lead off followed by Robb (11:10), Bunn (11:20), Jaeger (11:30) and Weilguni (11:40).

>Front Nine (Counters by Round):  +14 (+14/-/-)...Jaeger and Fox shared team-low honors at even par...+14 was on the final counting cards...The team was at +6 through nine.
