JONESBOROUGH, Tenn.. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team recorded its second-best round of the season to move into a tie for fourth at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges Golf and Country Club Saturday. Chattanooga's 283 is the lowest against par thus far at five under.
The Mocs are tied with No. 24 Wake Forest at 582 (+6). The duo leads Missouri (584) by two, North Carolina (585) by three and Tennessee (589) by seven.
Benni Weilguni (Langelois, Austria) topped his effort yesterday (71) with a three-under par 69 today. He is tied for fourth overall at minus four, 140. Three other UTC golfers posted par or better rounds, following his lead.
Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) was just one shot off Weilguni's pace with a two-under par 70. He is tied for 11th at 143 (-1). Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Steven Fox (Hendersonville Tenn.) each carded level par 72s.
Bunn moved up into a tie for 29th at 148 (+4), while Fox is now tied for 42nd at 151 (+7). Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) had the drop score of 77 and is now at 156 (+12).
Kent State is in first ahead of No. 25 Virginia by four shots. The Golden Flashes are five under (571) after today's 280 (-8). The Cavaliers made the big move with a 278 (-10) for a 36-hole total of 575 (-1).
Kent's Mackenzie Hughes' 66 (-6) pushed him into a tie for first with Missouri's Jace Long at 138 (-6). Long shot 67 (-5) to keep pace with Hughes. Michigan's Joey Garber is in third at 139 (-5). Weilguni is tied with first round leader John Hahn (Kent) at 140 (-4).
The Mocs head off of No. 1 tomorrow morning at 9:20 a.m., led by Robb. He is followed by Fox (9:30), Bunn (9:40), Jaeger (9:50) and Weilguni (10:00). Chattanooga will play with Wake Forest and Mizzou.
