Chattanooga Football - Postgame Quotes
No. 18 Georgia Southern at Chattanooga
Finley Stadium - Chattanooga, Tenn.
Oct. 16, 2010
Head Coach Russ Huesman
On the team's performance:
"That was unbelievable, that was a hard fought win. On defense we created the turnover and that is what we talked about. We had to make one big play on defense. We had a couple of bumps in the secondary, but I felt our coaches did an unbelievable job tonight. I'm so proud of our players and coaches. We talked about how we haven't had 3 consecutive conference wins since 1997, we haven't had four straight since '96. "
On the roughing the holder penalty:
"That was huge. The magnitude was the biggest play of the game."
On the defense improving in the second half:
"I can't put that on anybody but me and the coaches, we had practiced that offense. There was a lot of confusion on what players were eligible."
On using Sutherland more tonight:
"I don't think that was anything out of the ordinary. We used everybody as much as we could tonight. Brian's last touchdown was huge, and we had Joel the play before that play and just didn't connect with him. Our wide outs can run."
On controlling the GSU offense:
"I thought we did a great job in the second half just not letting them break the big play wide open. They mainly had three big plays and, other than that, I thought our defense did a great job.
Junior DL Chris Donald
On the defense:
"We just had to step up. The offense was doing well and we just had to make a statement on the last drive and we did."
On how big the win is:
"It's a great win here at home. We haven't been here in like a month and it feels good. It's my first big win here as a Chattanooga Moc."
Junior QB B.J. Coleman
On the win:
"For these seniors, these men have never experienced that. UTC hasn't had a winning streak since 1997. It's just something that definitely is a milestone in building this program. We are not were want to be yet, it's a stepping stone but these men deserve that tonight. These men came out here. They came fired up focused and prepared. They were here to play and that was what they were going to do. They were going to take care of their job and they weren't going to let anything happen to get in there way. And I tip my hat to these guys. They've done everything that we asked them to do and we just have to continue getting better."
Junior DB Jordan Tippit
On the second half:
"It
really wasn't much difference. We had the game plan on defense and we
came out and executed. In the first half, it was my mistake on one. I
played a subpar game for the most part and we collected some things at
halftime...we came out and executed like our coaches wanted us to."
On the game-ending interception:
"We
were playing two deep over the top. We were waiting on it. Coach said
before we went out there, 'nothing cheap, nothing deep' and that's how
we got that one."
Head Coach Jeff Monken
Thoughts on the game:
"They
kicked our butts in the second half. That's the bottom line. They just
lined us up and whipped us. We fumbled the ball, gave them a short field
and you can't do that. We couldn't stop them from running the football.
They just blocked us and we couldn't block them or sustain drives."
Thoughts on Chattanooga's defense:
"We
hit a big pass play and were able to punch it in that gave us momentum.
The whole day they were running that back-side safety cross with motion
and we could sneak a receiver out there, but it didn't work out."
Thoughts on Chattanooga's offense:
"They
were able to come out here and both throw and run the ball on offense.
This game was about 30 yards better then they're average rush. They've
been running the ball pretty good, about 160 yards a game or so. They
were able to do that and we just had missed opportunities."
Thoughts on the loss:
"I
don't like to lose and I would like to get rid of this one as soon as
we can. Anytime you lose there is a sense of urgency to get a victory.
After our loss last week, as disappointed as we were, we hoped to get a
win here and get the taste out of our mouth, but we didn't execute and
make plays."
